Product
Lavender oil is an essential oil, derived from plants of the genus Lavendula by steam distillation of the flowers. The oil is used in the fragrance, perfume and aromatherapy industries; there are three types of oil:
Production requirements are described in the Agriculture Note available through http://www.ozrural.com or http://www.nre.vic.gov.au.
Marketing
Niche markets such as tourist and aromatherapy outlets can often be found for lavender oil.
Larger producers would need to trade with established brokers, flavour and fragrance houses or companies dealing in essential oils and consistent quality would be required.
