Proceedings of First Australian Sesame Workshop

The First Australian Sesame Workshop was held at Darwin and Katherine in the Northern Territory from 21-23 March 1995. Twenty three invited papers were presented at the formal sessions held in Darwin during the first 11/2 days of the Workshop.

The third day was spent at Katherine, the main Centre for the sesame research program being undertaken by the Northern Territory Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries. During the last session of the Workshop participants joined in group discussions on the topic of developing strategies for a coordinated approach to the expansion of the Australian sesame industry.

The participants also took part in a survey in which they nominated in priority order what they saw as the five major issues which needed to be addressed to ensure expansion of the Australian sesame industry.

The Proceedings contains the 23 papers presented at the Workshop as well as an overview chapter which includes the results of the survey in which participants nominated the issues that they saw as crucial to the future development of the Australian sesame industry.

Follow-up action since the Workshop has included submission of a report on the Workshop to the Rural Industry Research and Development Corporation and the Grains Research and Development Corporation which jointly funded the Workshop. These two organisations have since funded the development of a strategic plan for the sesame industry for the period to 2005 based on the recommendations arising from the Workshop.

Rainforest Remedies: One Hundred Healing Herbs of Belize

ISBN 0-914955-13-6
Published by Lotus Press
WI 53181, USA

The diversity and mystery of the world's tropical rainforests-and the dangers facing them- have captured the attention of people throughout the world. The traditional peoples and cultures who inhabit these ecosystems are disappearing ever more rapidly than the flora and fauna of the forests. With their loss, we are losing incalculable stores of traditional knowledge about plants that has been developed by these cultures over centuries. The authors of this book have dedicated themselves to the preservation and continued use of this traditional knowledge and the rainforest from which it comes.
