23. New Rural Industries 1998: New Industries Development

First National Conference

Belvoir Homestead, Swan Valley, Perth, Western Australia
October 18-21, 1998

Innovative new industries are vital to the future of the Australian agricultural sector. Agriculture must keep pace with shifting consumer trends, fluctuating commodity prices, emerging new markets, environmental change and scientific and technological advances.

Strategies to support the earlier establishment of sustainable and profitable new industries are essential to ensure that Australia maintains its edge in world markets.

This conference will bring together leaders in new industry development in a forum to challenge conventional thinking and stimulate innovation. It will provide an opportunity to examine the processes of new industry development and to share approaches to accelerate industry growth.

The issues being raised here are of great significance to the continued competitiveness of Australia's agricultural sector.

This conference will be an important milestone in the emergence of the major and inevitable cultural shift which is occurring, not only in the activities of farming but in the values and actions of all involved with the agricultural sector.

A range of issues will be addressed, related to the development processes of new industries:

The conference will balance formal presentations with more informal activities, such as interactive workshops, panel discussion, debates and forums. Case studies, which highlight opportunities and demonstrate learning from success and failures will be presented.
