26. Australian Bushfood Industry

The Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation sponsored a meeting of representatives of Australian Bushfood Industry groups in Melbourne in December, 1997.

It was the opinion of those present that there was a need for a unified Peak Industry Body recognised by the industry and relevant Government bodies. Long discussions produced a positive interim resolution to the current situation:

A summary report of the meeting to be written by Ken Dyer (SVB) and disseminated to all present.
Establishment of a Working Party to recommend a structure for the Peak Industry Body for the Australian Bushfood Industry by March 1998.

The Working Party Members are to be:

Since the meeting a preliminary draft of a Structure of a Peak Industry Body is in circulation for comment and it is anticipated to expect some positive outcomes shortly.
